Kyivstar is the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, serving millions of customers with a wide array of telecommunications services. As part of its ongoing commitment to customer service and innovation, Kyivstar aimed to enhance its digital platform by adding a new section focused on device security. This section would help users protect their mobile devices, manage security settings, and take action if their devices were lost or stolen.
The Task
The task was to design the UX/UI for a new device security section of Kyivstar’s digital portal. This section was meant to empower users to manage the security of their devices both proactively and reactively. Specifically, the design needed to offer intuitive solutions for securing a device, locating it if lost, and managing security features in the event of theft. The interface had to guide users through the process of safeguarding their devices, even in stressful situations like a theft.

The project began with a discovery phase where I worked closely with Kyivstar’s team to understand the requirements and goals of the new device security section. This involved user research to identify customer pain points related to device loss and security, as well as competitive analysis to review how other telecommunications companies handled similar security features.
Research activities included:
• Analyzing customer pain points around device theft and loss, focusing on user needs during stressful scenarios
• Investigating industry best practices for device security features within mobile operator portals
• Conducting interviews with stakeholders to define the essential security features and the desired user experience
• Developing user personas that represented Kyivstar customers facing potential device security threats

With a clear understanding of user needs and business objectives, I created wireframes and mapped out user flows. The focus was on guiding users through processes such as securing a lost or stolen device, activating security features, and tracking the device’s location.

• Ensuring the navigation is intuitive, allowing users to easily access security settings and solutions
• Creating user flows that allow customers to take immediate action in the event of a security threat, such as locking the device remotely or erasing data
• Prioritizing visual clarity and concise instructions to help users navigate the section under pressure

After finalizing the wireframes, I moved to the visual design stage. The goal was to create a clean, reassuring design that conveyed security while remaining approachable and easy to use. I focused on using clear visual hierarchy and consistent Kyivstar branding elements to build user trust and comfort during potentially stressful situations.

• Interactive prototypes that allowed stakeholders to experience the user journey and provide feedback before implementation

By focusing on the unique challenges faced by users during device theft or loss, I was able to design a user-friendly and effective security section for Kyivstar’s portal. The result was a seamless and reassuring experience that empowered users to manage their device security with confidence, even in difficult situations. The project demonstrated my ability to address complex user needs while maintaining a strong focus on usability, clarity, and brand consistency.
